TORONTO, Canada — Former Davis Cup player, Jamaican native Karl Hale’s newest venture is the Caribbean Cup Tennis Series — a seven event series featuring top junior, seniors and professional tennis players from around the world. The Caribbean Cup Series is centered on the four Cs — Caribbean, Competition, Charity and Camaraderie.

Forty-one years ago Hale moved to Canada with his family. At age 13, he began his tennis career and went on to play Davis Cup for Jamaica, as well as made appearances on the pro tour circuit. In 2007, he was ranked the #1 player over 40 in the world. His talents shone as he transitioned into coaching and worked his way up from academies in Japan to becoming the head of the Canadian Federation Cup Team. And for the last decade, Hale has achieved enormous success in directing the Rogers Cup — the largest one week tennis tournament in the world.

Throughout his journey, Hale always made a point to go back home and visit his roots, during which he became increasingly determined to give back to the community he grew up in. To this day, his charity — the Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation — has raised more than $1.5 million for his native country, as well as built 13 schools on the island.

Hale has brought former Wimbledon and Grand Slam champions to the Caribbean such as Venus and Serena Williams, Jim Courier, and Marion Bartoli, to name a few. He is continuously expanding his partnership network with Caribbean countries each year, and recently added three more islands to the list of host countries. Competitors come from over 75 countries worldwide and more than 1,000 athletes participate in the events.

Hale’s charitable work has resulted in 18 schools being built in Jamaica as well as numerous other projects on all of the CCTS participating islands. Hale’s mission to give back to his community includes providing skill building opportunities for local youth both on and off the court; and along with over 200 local youth getting to participate in the Caribbean Cup Series, proceeds from the events have gone towards rebuilding schools, playgrounds and courts in the area.

The 2018 series will feature events in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago. Find out more about the Series here.
