by Earl Bousquet From teleSUR

Police have ruled out a terrorist attack and continue to comb through the rubble along with other emergency services.

A massive explosion in Antwerp, Belgium has left two people dead and 14 others injured, according to a report from Reuters. The site of the blast is near the city’s university.

The explosion took place in a 4-story building in the Paardenmarkt area of the city, collapsing the building’s facade onto the street below. The lowest level of the structure was reportedly a restaurant. Adjoining buildings were also affected by the blast.

Officials have confirmed that five people were seriously injured and one other was in a critical state. A couple and their child was pulled from the rubble alive, DW confirmed.

Antwerp Police tweeted: “Police confirm two more victims found under the rubble, both deceased. The victims have not yet been identified.”

Several people suffered minor injuries from the collapsing structures, officers said.

“Emergency services have contact with three people who are still under the rubble. They are conscious. There is rapid work in extremely dangerous conditions,” the statement said.

Witnesses claimed they hear cries for help coming from the collapsed building. Police have ruled out a terrorist attack and continue to comb through the rubble along with other emergency services.

Local media said it was a gas blast, but authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the incident.
