2013 IOC Women and Sport Awards
The IOC has asked the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee for nominations for the 2013 Women and Sport Awards. The CIOC is asking Cayman’s sporting federations to review the guidelines document and complete the candidature form for anyone that they may wish to nominate, and then submit it to the CIOC for consideration. Nominations must be submitted to the CIOC no later than October 30th 2012 in order to be considered.
2013 IOC WOMEN AND SPORT AWARDS – GENERAL RULES
1. AIM
The IOC Women and Sport trophies are awarded annually to promote the advancement of women in sport. They recognize outstanding achievement and contributions made to develop encourage and strengthen the participation of women and girls at all levels in the sports world.
Six (6) Trophies are awarded each year as follows:
– one at the world level
– one each for Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania
2. AWARD CRITERIA
The IOC Women and Sport Award may be awarded to:
a) an individual (man or woman)
• _a retired athlete (no longer in competitive sport of any kind)
• _an administrator
• _a coach
• _a journalist, writer
• _a team
b) an institution
• _a National Olympic Committee
• _an International Federation
• _a Continental Association
in recognition of outstanding contributionto
• _the participation of women and girls in physical and sports activities
• _the coaching of women and girls in physical and sports activities
• _the support of women in administrative and leadership sport structures
• _the promotion of women and sport in the media
• _acting as a role model for women and girls
3. NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES
Candidates may be nominated by National Olympic Committees, International Federations on the Olympic programme,or Continental Associations. Commission members and other IOC recognized entities may also nominate.
Nomination forms will be posted on the IOC website (www.olympic.org) and sent by the IOC to all of the above organizations. The completed Nomination Form should include a detailed description of
achievements and a photograph of the candidate. It is important to provide supporting material such as certificates or awards, press articles, summary of reports, photographs or videos.
The president or the Secretary General of the relevant organization must endorse and sign the nomination form on behalf of the organization.
⇒ _Deadline: submission of nominations must arrive at the IOC Secretariat by 29 November 2012. Nominations received after this date will not be considered.
4. SELECTION PROCESS
The Selection Committee of the IOC Women and Sport Commission will review the nominations and submit its recommendations to the full Commission for the final selections.
5. AWARD CEREMONIES
The final list of nominees will be announced in advance of the final selections. Prize giving ceremony will take place in July 2013. Following which NOCs, IFs and Continental Associations will be requested to recognize and celebrate the achievements of their candidates. More information will be provided on the IOC website in due course.
6. FOLLOW UP MEASURES
– As an incentive to the awardees, the IOC will fund projects that they would develop in cooperation with NOCs or IFs which would be aimed at promoting women and girls.
– All good candidacies will be carried over for consideration in the next year even if they are not renominated by their NOCs or IFs;
