2015 Cayman Islands Triathlon announces charity partner

b2ap3_large_teammatch600The Cayman Islands Triathlon Association and presenting sponsor of November’s triathlon, Elian, have announced this year’s benefitting charity — the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

As presenting sponsor of the triathlon for the second consecutive year, the corporate and fund services specialists, were given the opportunity to choose a local organisation to help promote and raise awareness of, and to receive monies raised through the race.

Mr Colin MacKay, Group Director of Elian said the company was pleased to be partnering with the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and hoped the race was able to raise significant funds.

“Giving back to the communities in which we live and work has long been a core value of Elian and its employees,” he said. “”We are proud to be able to make a lasting difference to the lives of people affected by cancer, both directly and indirectly.”

Triathlon Association Race Director, Mr Paul Schreiner emphasised the importance of community to the Association.

“I’m delighted Elian has chosen such a worthy cause for our 2015 partner charity. We look forward to being a part of helping the Cancer Society achieve its aims.”

As a registered not-for-profit, each year the Association aims to raise funds to cover both the cost of the triathlon and make a contribution to a local charity such as the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

The ultimate goal of the Triathlon Association is to also obtain enough support to be able to help provide financial support to Caymanian athletes participating in overseas triathlons and ideally to provide a young Caymanian with a sporting scholarship.

“Our annual triathlon, now in its 19th year, is an important community event on many levels,” Mr Schreiner said. “Firstly, triathlon promotes a lifestyle of health and fitness, it encourages dedication and provides participates — either first timers or seasoned triathletes — with a goal for which to aim.”

“Secondly, the triathlon provides us with an event through which we are able to raise money for a worthy local charity, such as the Cayman Islands Cancer Society,” he said. “And finally, we hope to be able to raise enough funds to help support Caymanian youths interested in the sport of triathlon.”

“We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of companies such as Elian, but to accomplish all this, we still need to secure more sponsorship, and so I encourage Cayman’s business community to reach out to us to help us achieve these goals.”

Ms Jennifer Weber, operations manager of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society said she was thrilled to hear the annual triathlon had pledged its support to the Society.

“Without the support of the community we simply could not continue to fund the vital services we provide for local families,” she said. “A donation such as this will make a difference. I encourage the Cayman community to sponsor this race, to participate in it or to show your support by coming along to watch and cheer on the day.”

The Cayman Islands Triathlon Association has committed to supporting local charities since inception with past recipients including Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands Little League Association, the CAYS Foundation and Cayman Hospice.

The Cayman Islands Triathlon will take place at Public Beach on Sunday, 1 November 2015 with three race options:

* Individual Olympic Distance: 1500m Swim, 40k Bike, 10k Run

* Individual Sprint Distance: 750m Swim, 20k Bike, 5k Run

* Team Olympic Relay: 2 or 3 person teams.
