2019 CIFA Youth Leagues: 345 FC set the tone for Cayman Islands Boys Under 11 League
The re-formatted Boys Under 11 league got underway this past Saturday, February 2 in the 2019 Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) youth leagues. Saturday’s games also marked the third round of play in the Girls Under 11 and the Boys Under 15 leagues.
In the Boys Under 11 league, 345 FC I and II kicked off their campaigns in style with respect rule enforced 5-0 wins over George Town SC I and Sunset Makos respectively.
Jhairye Willis and Ben Lyne grabbed two goals each and Leon Frank added another as 345 FC I defeated GTSC 5-0 (respect rule enforced), while Chaz Ruddick, Emre Cuevas-Ebanks, Jagger Alban and Ethan Cansell all scored in the 345 FC II 5-0 defeat (respect rule enforced) of the Sunset Makos. The fifith goal was an unfortunate own goal.
In the final Group A game of the day, Academy SC Wanderers got past Latinos FC 5-0 as Max McGeough scored two with Ijah Jennings, Liam Whiteside (penalty) and David McLaughlin contributing to the win with a goal each.
In Group B of the Boys Under 11 league, Academy SC Saints topped Scholars ISC 4-1 thanks to goals from Matthias Vargas, Patrick Roberts and Oscar Drackton. Scholars ISC scored an own goal to bring Academy’s tally to four, while in return, Academy responded by scoring an own goal of their own, which accounted for the Scholars ISC goal.
Also in Group B, Sunset Warriors beat George Town SC II 5-0 (respect rule enforced) with Jaxon Cover scoring two and Matthew Rees, Charlie Isbister and Jaydon Ashdown scoring the other three goals.
In the Girls Under 11 league, the young ladies from George Town SC and Scholars ISC played to a very entertaining 0-0 draw while Sunset Fusion defeated Sunset Iguanas 7-2 and Sunset Stingrays squeezed by Academy SC 3-2.
Scorers for Sunset Fusion included Harper Nelson (3) and Olivia Thorpe (3) while Caydon Coles grabbed her team’s seventh goal. In reply for the Iguanas, it was Clara DeQuintal and Sashka Parker scoring a goal each.
Scorers for Sunset Stingrays were Madison Leadbetter, Emily Woolf and Bronwen Burt, while Kenza Nairuwonsanga and Zariyah Durran replied for Academy SC.
In the Boys Under 15 league played on Saturday afternoon, 345 FC I downed Academy SC White 2-1 with 345s Tom Byrne and Gilbert Cache-Rodriguez cancelling out Jaydon Whittaker’s opener for Academy SC White.
Bodden Town FC got past Sunset FC 2-1 as Breshawn Watson and Jaqan Miller found the back of the net for the Bodden Town outfit. Sunset’s Jacob McMillian-Cullett scored a consolation goal late in the game for his team.
In the final Boys Under 15 game of the day, Academy SC Blue defeated Cayman Athletic SC 2-1 with goals from Selvin Caballero and Jeremy Scott. Cayman Athletic’s Rashaad Powery had opened the scoring in the second minute but his club could not hold on to the lead.
The 2019 CIFA Youth Leagues continue on Saturday, February 9 with a number of games at various venues across Grand Cayman.
