23 new vehicles for government departments
As a part of its policy of cost savings through the regular renewal of assets, the Ministry of Home affairs undertook a public tender through the CTC for motor vehicles for various departments.
A total of 23 vehicles were acquired from Vampt Motors to replace existing older, less efficient and less reliable vehicles. These older vehicles will either be scrapped or sold at public auction.
In addition to the 23 for the Ministry of Home Affairs, three were acquired for the Customs Department. It is estimated that the acquisition will yield savings of over $0.5m over five years in maintenance and fuel efficiencies. This is just one example of the type of strategies that the Ministry uses to leverage efficiency and maximize resources. The published procurement policy of the Ministry requires the overriding consideration of value for money in any procurement.
The new vehicles were specified to be more efficient and reliable and come fully equipped for their specific purposes. Departments that benefited from the acquisition included 16 vehicles for the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, four for the Immigration Department, one for the Ministry and two for the Prison.
The total cost will be less than $700K duty free and includes five years of warranty and maintenance. The acquisition included four mid-sized SUVs, two commercial vans, two specialized prisoner transport vehicles, 10 sedans including five patrol vehicles, three motor cycles and one pick-up truck.
