UPDATE: 23-year-old female robbed of her handbag- suspect apprehended

The male who was arrested on suspicion of robbery of a 23-year-old-female of her handbag and contents in the vicinity of the Royal Palms on 21st April 2014 has been charged with robbery and is due in Court this afternoon.

George Town CID is still seeking assistance from witnesses who may have witnessed the incident. And any person who may have found credit cards, a CI driver’s license, insurance cards in the vicinity of the Royal Palms to contact DC Laura Ryding at 949-4222.

On Monday, 21st April 2014 at about 10:45 pm a 23-year-old female was walking in the vicinity of Royal Palms, West Bay Road when she was robbed by a male, who had what appeared to be a knife. The victim was on her way home from work at a business establishment on West Bay Road when the incident occurred. The suspect ran towards the beach area.
An off duty HM Customs officer and his male friend was driving on West Bay Road when they noticed the woman in distress. They stopped and spoke to her. Based on information they received from her, they proceeded to Royal Palms and spoke to persons in the area where the suspect ran. Subsequently, they got back into their vehicle and proceeded along West Bay Road searching for the suspect. they noticed the suspect on Helen Drive, and they apprehended him. The suspect was later handed over to the police and arrested on suspicion of robbery. The suspect remains in police custody whilst investigations continue.
During the incident, the victim’s hand bag was stolen, and she received minor injuries to her hand which was swollen as a result of her struggling with the suspect. Her handbag had contained credit cards, a CI driver’s license, insurance cards, just over US$250 and CI$100 cash, a Blackberry charger and a small flash light. The Blackberry charger and the flash light were recovered on Helen Drive by the police.
The RCIPS would like to thank the HM Customs officer and his friend for their tenacity and bravery in assisting them in successfully apprehending the suspect without any injuries to themselves or to the suspect.
