MIAMI, (CMC) – Several Caribbean nationals were arrested by the US Immigration and Customs officials in a move targeting criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety.

Of the 24 arrested, several are nationals of Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos.

The arrests were made across central Florida.

“All of those arrested by ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) during last week’s enforcement action, met one of the agency’s top two enforcement priorities. All encountered had criminal records, some were felony convictions for serious or violent offences such as manslaughter, child abuse, robbery, false imprisonment, felony DUI, hit and run, armed burglary, racketeering as well as weapons and drug violations,” the ICE said in a release.

According to the Field Office Director for the Miami Enforcement and Removal Operations, “ICE prioritises convicted criminals and public safety threats for apprehension and removal” adding that “Our enforcement actions last week made our communities safer today.”

The others held by security officials are citizens of Ecuador, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Mexico, El Salvador,  Canada and England.
