GIS Interns_ PRESSThree summer interns are steeping themselves in the communications profession this summer, during attachments with Government Information Services (GIS).

The young women have engaged in writing press releases, photography, and administrative work for the Cayman Islands Gazette and videography for CIGTV; as well as learning about aspects of mass communication while job-shadowing staff in the department.

One intern, Miss Abigail Ebanks, recently graduated from St. Ignatius High School, interested in videography and other television elements of GIS, Abigail’s week-long work placement entailed helping videotape and edit shows for CIGTV — Channel 20 on Westar TV, and 23 on Logic.

Administrative work is the focus of Miss Nikita Scott. A recent Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) graduate, she has completed work-skills training in areas including IT and business studies. She will soon be attending The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI), focusing on hospitality and business-management.

The third intern, Miss Japhia Augustine, is engaged in writing and media assignments with the GIS Information Officers. She is on summer break after her first year at Canterbury Christ Church University, England. After advancing her skills in literature she hopes to pursue a career in writing.

In addition to the GIS trio, many participants in the annual Government internship programme are attached to departments ranging from Planning and Tourism, to Finance and Economics.
