4 Cayman Islands athletes reach CARIFTA qualifying standard at first Trinity meet

With the first meet of the season completed Trinity Track Club would first like to thank all the athletes who participated, the parents who came out and the CIAA officials. We also extend our thanks to the “Cayman Islands Men/Women Prison Officers and Cayman Islands Fire Station Department and the CIAA Officals/Parents” for coming out and supporting the event by competing in the 4 x 100m relay.

The men relay proved to be exciting with the Fire Fighters holding off a fast closing Her Majesty Men Officer while Her Majesty Women Officers team held off the “blazing CIAA Combine Team.

Our athletes had some exemplary Carifta A standard performances in the 1500m from Kiara Mclaughlin (5:09.01), Dominic Dyer (4:10.06) and Tahj Lewis (4:08.09). Other included Mustang’s Jacob Scott in the Men High Jump achieving the height of 1.95m.

10409149_765266446879951_4217834636920297268_nOther impressive performances includes Trinity’s Javon Walter who achieved a PB in the high jump of 1.81m, Aijah Lewis with a jump of 1.51m. Mustang’s Rashaun Connolly, Johan Josephs and Tatyana Martin gave a strong 400m season opener. With Johan Josephs winning the Men Open with 49.4h.

Team Incvitus showed great strength by running the under 18 4X200m relay as well as the Men Open 4x200m relay with the same team members comprised of Karim Murry, Leighton and Isaiah Robinson, while the victories went to Mustang’s Under 18 and Trinity’s Men Gerome Bodden, Dwayne Anglin and Ahmari Piercy.

Trinity Quartet of Monique Gordon, Jaden Francis, Tori Ann Gonz and Ashantae Graham ran strong races to set team PB and a meet record in the 800m Sprint Medley and 4 x 100m, while Incvtius Hannah Robinson looked showed great form in the under 14 girls 100m.

10428695_764513116955284_198941877226501796_nThe meet was organized by Trinity coach Ato Stephens. “I thank all the athletes who participated, the parents who came out and the Cayman Islands Amateur Athletics officials and Harmonic Health Group & Consolidated Water for their support,” he said.

The four athletes who reached the CARIFTA marks were Tahj Lewis, Dominic Dyer, Kiara McLaughlin and Mustang Track Club’s Jacob Scott.
