4 Star review for Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort
Reviewed on Oct 1, 2013 by chocoli30
I am always honest with my reviews so this is my experience at the Marriott Cayman beach resort. We decided to get out of the New Jersey cold weather and visit Cayman Island for a long weekend Fri 1/11-Mon 1/14. When we first arrived at around1pm our room was not ready which we knew check in was not until 4. They greeted us with a smile and a non alcohol Mango drink and rum cake. They gave us a cell phone and told us they will ring us when the room was ready. They also gave us a 20 percent discount coupon to use for lunch or dinner. We decided to walk around the resort, which was nice and walked across the street to Coconut Joes for lunch. I had fish tacos which was good not great. We also had breakfast there the next day. At around 3 they rang the cellphone to tell us our room was ready. The room was nice and clean and did not smell like mold or musky like most resorts in the Caribbean. We asked if they could upgrade our room to ocean view but she politely told us that it was filled but she told us we had had a nice corner room. We had a view of the garden room 225 which I liked. The bed was very extremely comfy. It was like all Marriott rooms with balcony, refrigerator, desk chair. The shower was always hot and I took showers at different times. We always had plenty of towels in our room. Very quiet the only time I heard noise was when I had the balcony door open and people would walk through. All of the workers from the guys who open the door, the waitress, people at the pool everyone that I came in contact with was extremely nice. I can’t say enough about the staff. I went to the spa and had the best 50min aromatherapy spa treatment with a 20 min Jacuzzi bath with champagne. I was so relaxed. The therapist knew exactly what she was doing. Money well worth spending.
The garden area was beautiful and lit up at night. The pool area was small as well as the beach area. We walked along 7 mile and all of the resorts had a small area because of hurricane Ivan. The beach was extremely clean and safe to walk. no hagglers or people bothering you selling things. The water was clear and blue blue and the weather was Great. I am not sure why people compare the Ritz to the Marriott do they not know that the Ritz is part of the Marriott chain and if you could afford the Ritz you would automatically stay there. If I could afford the Ritz why would I even stay at the Marriott. That wouldn’t make sense. Some people reviews are very misleading because I was under the impression that the Ritz and the Westin was in walking distance. It’s a very long walk. Anyway the food was outstanding and I’m a foodie I don’t mind spending money on a good meal. We were there on Friday night for the Buccaneer feast. It was an all you can eat seafood buffet. They had live entertainment a fire show and singers. Some of my favorite dishes were the jerk lobster tails, shrimp, jerk chicken, fish, beans and rice, and the seafood salad and for dessert the rum cake was delicious. There was so much more food and we ate our share. The quality of the food was high quality. I am so glad we decided to dine here. Again the staff was awesome. They actually were happy to see my husband every time he got up for yet another plate of food. The prices are in Cayman money so it can get a little confusing at first. Cayman is not a budget friendly island it is very costly but if you know that ahead of time just save a few bucks so you can just let loose and have a good time. Most people get up around 7am and put their towels on chairs. I am guilty of it my self since I am an early riser I cannot waste my vacation in a room sleep I rather go outdoors and lounge on the beach chairs. I always got a beach chair cover and towels and never had any problems. I alternated from the pool deck to the beach and never once had problems finding chairs. At the beach you are really close to people so that can be a bit strange. They also have pool and beach service where they come around and give you water and you can order food or snacks. Our last day we had the breakfast buffet and again the food was fresh, the quality was superb, the omelets station was delicious and the staff again was friendly. I actually did not run into 1 single unfriendly staff the entire weekend. To sum it up I can’t think of 1 bad thing about this Marriott. It is a small resort so if your looking for a big resort with night life this is not for you. If you are looking to relax in the sun and just enjoy life to the fullest I would recommend this resort . Bring bug spray for the night if you sit out.
We will be returning Jan 2014.
