The NFL has officially concluded 102 seasons, giving plenty of time for bizarre events. Throughout the decades, we’ve witnessed tremendous triumphs, astonishing blunders, great NFL picks, and events of all kinds, both bizarre and mundane.

Thus, the NFL legacy can be viewed as nothing shy of a goldmine of potential that has been brought to life.

With such a vast database of incidents, what great opportunity than the dead of winter to look back and recall 5 of the weirdest NFL facts?

5 Craziest NFL Facts of All Time

i. Green Bay’s season ticket waiting list is over 1,000 years old.

If you applied for season tickets today, you would not be able to purchase them for more than a thousand years. This assumes the human race hasn’t been wiped out, the Packers continue to reside in Green Bay, and Lambeau Field still stands.

ii. Brett Favre was the first player to catch a pass from Favre in the NFL.

Himself. The date was the 13th of September, 1992, and it was Favre’s first season in Green Bay, but his first pass occurred to the receiver with the most faith. During a rollout bootleg, Favre’s pass went right off the helmet of a Tampa Bay Buccaneer and back into his own hands. This cost him seven yards. In 2009, Favre received a two-yard lost pass from himself while playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

iii. A kicker was once crowned MVP.

1982 was the year. The hair was huge, as was the roster of NFL players on strike for better treatment from owners. The standout player in the strike-shortened season was a kicker! Imagine if that were to occur today, for example, if Justin Tucker received MVP. Nailing 95% of his field goals, including a few key ones in the backdrop of Washington’s season, was impressive, but it’s still strange for a kicker to win MVP.

iv. The youngest person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame was 34 years old.

Gale Sayers, the Kansas Comet, was accepted into the Hall of Fame in 1977 at the age of 34, despite only appearing in seven seasons between 1965 and 1971. Injuries hindered the late Sayers from playing longer. Still, Canton voters clearly recognized something everyone knew about him: he was the most electrifying man with a football in his arms in the universe when he appeared on the field.

v. Every NFC South club had finished last in the division and featured in at least one Super Bowl since the division’s inception.

In the NFC South, unpredictability is the name of the game. Typically, divisions have periods of dominance, such as the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent run of six AFC West titles, followed by five from the Denver Broncos. However, that does not appear to be the case in the NFC South. Even though the New Orleans Saints have won four consecutive games from 2017 to 2020, the parity in the division is remarkable.
