61lbs Cocaine found on Brac beach – updated with new photos
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) have confirmed that on Saturday 20th April 2013 at approximately 2.30pm the Cayman Brac police was alerted by the HM Customs K9 Unit of what appeared to be suspected cocaine found on the beach between Brac Reef Resort and the old Divi Tiara Resort on the South side of the Island.
25 cocaine packages were found. 24 of the packages were tightly sealed with the size of each package being approximately 8x6x2. One of the packages was loose and contained a small amount of white substances resembling cocaine. The weight of the drugs found was 61lbs.
Aerial, beach and land search was carried out by officers of the RCIP, Customs and RCIP Air Support Unit.
The suspected drugs have since been transported to Grand Cayman and currently in police custody. This drugs find is the subject of an investigation by the Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force and will be destroyed as soon as all forensic opportunities are explored.
The RCIP is seeking information on this discovery and ask that any person who may have information that can assist the police should contact any of the police stations or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS).
