8,000 PS employees on hit list
The Greek Government is on the lookout for 8,000 public sector employees who have broken the code of conduct, with a view to sacking them.
Also on the hit list are Public Servants who used false documents to obtain their position as well as those who have been absent without leave.
The search is a bid to respond to demands for layoffs by the country’s international creditors.
The Ministries of Finance and Administrative Reform released a statement saying it was expected that monitoring would help to select between 7,000 and 8,000 public sector workers who would leave the Service by the end of 2014, upon completion of all legal procedures.
It said the investigations would be the main issue discussed at the next meeting with representatives of European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund – or the troika as they are collectively known.
The troika is reportedly pressuring Greece for immediate progress on the subject, with the program of departures from the public sector the most important prior action required for the proposed bailout package, worth €2.8 billion (A$3.55 billion).
