World Water Day is celebrated by cleaning beaches in the Mexican Caribbean

Sunset World Resorts & Vacation Experiences organized two days of cleaning the beaches at its hotels in Cancún and the Riviera Maya to celebrate World Water Day, which is celebrated every 22nd of March.

As part of its commitment to preserving the natural resources of the Mexican Caribbean and its efforts to create awareness among its staff, guests and the local community in general, the tourist group brought together more than 60 staff members from the Sunset Royal Beach Resort, Ocean Spa Hotel and Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort, Spa & Nature Park on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd of March to take part in this noble cause.

The enthusiastic participants in the beach cleaning days used gloves, rakes and plastic bags to collect the trash and waste products found along the beaches – mainly seaweed, cigarette butts, snack bags and plastic and glass bottles.

The staff members at the different resorts were happy to contribute in this way to taking care of and protecting beaches which are an unbeatable tourist attraction and a natural resource that generates income for the region’s inhabitants.

Since it was started in 1992 by the United Nations, World Water Day has been celebrated on the 22nd of March. The aim is to attract the attention of the whole planet regarding the importance of water and promote actions that improve the sustainable use of our water resources.

World Water Day revolves around the relationship between water and energy, two fundamental elements in our daily life that are closely linked.
