50,000 runners set off in almost perfect conditions. Derek was in good shape and looking for around a 4 hour time, but congestion where the course narrows at 23 mile post slowed the pace. He was still happy with his time, best for 3 years, and a great start to the 6 marathon challenge!

Under the patronage of Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs. Helen Kilpatrick, together with the support of the Cayman HospiceCare (“Hospice”) and the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman, 65 years old veteran runner Derek Haines has accepted a challenge to run 6 marathons in 2014 in order to raise funds for a new purpose built Hospice building that will include the ability for Hospice to offer inpatient care.
