Bahamian Brewery Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ Sculling Races brings the magic back to Grand Bahama – Hundreds of Bahamians flocked to the Taino Beach this past weekend for the 19th Annual GB Regatta and the crowd pleasing Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling races which took place on Saturday evening. (Photo Courtesy of Bahamian Brewery and Beverage for Barefoot Marketing)FREEPORT, Grand Bahama — Grand Bahama, also known as the Magic City came alive this past weekend as hundreds of Bahamians flocked to Taino Beach for the 19th Annual GB Regatta and the crowd pleasing Sands ‘Man In the Boat’ sculling races.

In an effort to heighten the awareness of the Regatta and as an official sponsor, the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Company kicked off the festivities with a motorcade throughout the streets of Grand Bahama on Thursday July 17th handing out free products to excited persons lining the streets along the route.

This year’s Regatta marked a new beginning as it was cancelled last year due to economic challenges but thanks to community supporters like the Brewery and others, the two-day event was officially opened on Friday evening and welcomed some ten sailing boats and a number of participants from all over The Bahamas.

The ‘Sands Man in the Boat’ sculling races were held on Saturday evening and after several heats, Clay Moxey came out victorious followed by Equilla Lafleur in second place and third place went to well known Steven Rolle, who has previously won sculling races at the National Family Island Regatta in Exuma and then at the recent 47th Annual Long Island Regatta.

“We were very pleased to see the tremendous amount of people watching the excitement from the shoreline,” said Lynden Johnson, Sales and Marketing Manger at Bahamian Brewery and Beverage. “The Sands family is pleased to sponsor this old Bahamian tradition of sculling as are we are proud to be a 100% Bahamian Brewery.”

Sweet Victory – After several heats, Clay Moxey came out victorious at this year’s sculling races at the GB Regatta. As the first place winner, Moxey received 10 cases of Sands beer, a trophy and he will also be flown to New Providence later in the year to compete in the Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ National Championships. Each participant also received a complimentary case of Sands beer. The second place winner received 8 cases of Sands beer and a trophy and the third place winner received 6 cases of Sands beer and a trophy. Each participant also received a complimentary case of Sands beer.

Not resting on their laurels the next stop for the Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling races will be this weekend in Treasure Cay, Abaco, which will take place at Treasure Cay beach on Sunday July 27th. The sculling races will begin at 6pm with live performances by the New Entry Band, along with Eugene Davis.

“My staff and I are extremely grateful for all of the support that Bahamians have given us in the various sculling races,” said Owner and CEO James ‘Jimmy’ Sands who was in town for the event and presented trophies in a series of sailing races sponsored by the Brewery. He added, “As many people know sculling is an important part of my heritage, I hope that with the continued support sculling will regain the notoriety it once had.”

Well-Known Sculler Returns for another chance to win title – Two time Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling Champion, Steven Rolle returned to Taino Beach for another chance at victory at this year’s sculling races in Freeport. Rolle has previously won sculling races at the National Family Island Regatta in Exuma and then again at the recent 47th Annual Long Island Regatta in Salt Pond. The next stop for the Sands ‘Man in the Boat’ sculling races will be this weekend in Treasure Cay, Abaco and will take place on Treasure Cay Beach on Sunday July 27th.
