UPDATE: Robbery at Cayman Islands liquor store / Motor cyclist injured – Police call for witnesses (possible link)

The RCIPS confirmed at 5:41pm  this afternoon (Sep 8) the motorcyclist, a 28 year old male, passed away this afternoon.

Police are investigating a possible link between the armed robbery that occurred at Joe-Ena’s Liquor Store on Friday, 05th September 2014 and the motorcyclist involved in the motorcycle accident that occurred on Jefferson Road, West Bay about 30 minutes after the robbery. The 28-year-old motorcyclist is in a critical condition at George Town Hospital.

Armed Robbery at West Bay liquor store

At 9:51pm Friday 5th September 2014, police received a report that one male entered the Joe Ena’s Liquor Store in West Bay and demanded cash from the cashier on duty at the time.

The male is described as being about 5’8″ to 5’9″, spoke with a Caymanian accent, dressed in full black, wearing a mask and was armed with what is suspected to be a firearm, he later made his escape on foot from the premises with an unknown sum of cash; the direction of travel is unknown at this time. No shots were fired and no one was injured.

It is also suspected that the male was assisted by a second individual who remained on the outside of the premises and was dressed in a white top.

Anyone who was in the area at the relevant time and saw or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999, the RCIPS tip line on 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS).

 

One vehicle collision, one injured

At approximately 10:20pm, Friday September 5th 2014 police and emergency services received a report that a male rider had fallen off his motor cycle on Jefferson Road, West Bay. The circumstance of the incident is unclear at this time, however the rider was transported to the George Town Hospital by ambulance where he is admitted in critical condition.

The RCIPS is seeking any person(s) who may have witnessed the collision or have any information relative to the collision to contact the George Town Police Station or the investigating officer Police Constable Chong at 949-4222 or the nearest Police Station.
