CONCACAF sets champions league quarterfinal schedule
Miami, FL (Friday, November 21, 2014) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) today unveiled the schedule for the quarterfinals of the 2014/15 edition of the CONCACAF Champions League, the region’s premier competition for clubs.
The quarterfinal round begins the evening of February 24 in Alajuela, when 2013/14 CONCACAF Champions League semifinalist LD Alajuelense receives DC United of Major League Soccer, the top point earner of the group phase with a perfect four wins from four matches, at 8 PM EST. That same night, fellow MLS side and 2014 Canadian Champion Impact de Montreal travels to Mexico to visit CF Pachuca.
The following day, action returns to Costa Rica as CD Saprissa takes on Club America, current Liga MX Apertura 2014 leader. The opening legs finalize on Thursday, February 26 in Honduras, when CD Olimpia welcomes CS Herediano in Tegucigalpa at 8:00 PM EST.
The second legs of the quarterfinals will take place the first week of March, beginning with a March 3 showdown between Impact de Montreal and Pachuca at Montreal’s historic Olympic Stadium.
Wednesday night March 4 sees two Costa Rican teams on the road, as Alajuelense visits DC United, and Saprissa pays a return visit to Estadio Azteca to face off with Club America. The quarterfinal phase concludes in Costa Rica on Thursday, March 6 when Olimpia calls on Herediano.
Twenty-four clubs from across the Confederation began the quest for the crown in this season’s Champions League group phase, played between August and October, with the top team from each of the eight three-team groups advancing to the knockout round.
Two-leg semifinals between the quarterfinal winners are scheduled to begin later in March. The winner of the DC United/Alajuelense pairing will face the winner of Montreal/Pachuca, with the winner of the Montreal/Pachuca matchup hosting the first leg of the series, and the second leg played in either Washington, DC or Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The club that emerges from the Herediano/Olimpia match will take on the victor from the Club America/Saprissa series; the first leg will be played in either Heredia or Tegucigalpa, and the second leg will be hosted by either Club America or Saprissa.
The final round between semifinal winners will be contested the last week of April.
