Boxers bring back medals

The winners show off their medals with Charles Whittaker, President Thomas Ebanks and coach Nayon Donie Anglin

Boxers from the D Dalmain Gym proudly show off their impressive medal haul after their successful trip to Barbados.

World number 2 Charles “Killa” Whittaker was on hand to congratulate the winning team after every single one of them returned to Cayman with either gold or silver.

Tafari Ebanks, Thomas McField and Dariel Ebanks all picked up gold at the Ronald Wilson Memorial Tournament, previously known as the Caribbean Championships.

Kendall Ebanks and Gino “Crusher” Brown both won silvers.

Whittaker was quick to heap praise on the work carried out by coaches Nayon Donie Anglin and Norman Wilson.

“These guys have been the backbone of boxing in Cayman,” he said. “They must be very proud of what the team has achieved in Barbados.

“My advice to the older members of the team would be to look at turning professional after the Olympics.”

Meanwhile Peter “Lightning” Lewison hopes to break into the top 100 in the world with his next bout.

He is due to fight in March against a Mexican opponent and victory would see him jump up the ranks.

He said: “My short-term goal was to get into the top 100 one year after turning professional and a victory in March could see that happen.”
