Another significant move in the career development strategy between Cayman Enterprise City and Cayman Islands Government

29th January 2015 George Town, Grand Cayman – The Enterprise Cayman Board, charged with connecting Caymanians to opportunities in Cayman’s special economic zone, has assembled a Technical Advisory Sub-Committee (TASC) to advise the Board in the coming months as it prepares recommendations that it hopes will impact the education and training of Cayman’s next generation of technology entrepreneurs. The subcommittee is comprised of local technology experts including CEC’s new Technology Officer Daniel Ebanks, and from the private sector technology professionals, Matt Barnett and Kevin Winton.

One of Enterprise Cayman’s primary objectives, as part of the agreement between CEC and the Government, is to raise awareness among young Caymanians of developing opportunities in the zone, and to assist them in getting the exposure and training they need to compete for these future jobs. The technical expertise of the TASC members help guide the Enterprise Cayman Board as it works to realize this objective and facilitate opportunities for Caymanian talent within the special economic zone.

“The collective experience and expertise of the TASC members should provide us with technical advice on a range of subjects such as secondary and post-secondary courses and curricula, and institutions with a reputation for innovative and cutting-edge education and training,” said Board Chairman Vaughan Carter.

The plan is to develop programmes and initiatives to help young Caymanians acquire the technical skills they need to become highly skilled IT practitioners. Input from TASC members will also help Enterprise Cayman establish career pathways, so that students currently interested in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at school can cultivate their skills progressively through vocational education and work experience.

“Zone companies continue to show a keen interest in hiring local talent,” said Mr. Carter. “We want to ensure that Caymanians have every opportunity to fill those jobs.”

The subcommittee plans to meet on a monthly basis and TASC members are already getting to grips with the types of careers that CEC will likely generate. With this established, the TASC members will then turn their attention to how best to support “tech-savvy” Caymanians so that they are fully prepared to join the work force.
