George Town, Grand Cayman, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 – Leadership Cayman (LC) continues to connect and inspire some of the Islands’ top leaders to better understand their personal leadership abilities and styles and to gain an in-depth understanding of the Cayman Islands.

Launched by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce in 2010, LC welcomed a full class of 25 participants during a two-day opening retreat at the Reef Resort in East End and held two seminars entitled “Media in our Community” and “Criminal Justice”. The opening retreat consists of a series of presentations, problem solving and team building activities. Each participant receives customised reports that assesses their personal leadership and communication styles. The LC class toured Pinnacle Media and then participated in a panel discussion with April Cummings, General Manager, Cayman 27, Norma McField, Director, Radio Cayman and Wendy Ledger, Founder/writer, Cayman News Service. The interactive panel discussion focused on three main themes: Freedom of Information, Freedom of the Press and the impact of social media and the dissemination of news.

The LC class also learned about the opportunities and challenges that are faced by each of the media outlets. Trisha Meyerhoff, LC programme coordinator, organised and moderated the session. LC Class members Gene Hydes and Rod Campbell coordinated the Criminal Justice seminar and were assisted by LC Alumni Mentor Isaac Espinosa. The LC class toured the George Town Police Station and received a better understanding about the conditions under which the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service carry out their daily duties. Panelists for the seminar included Anthony Ennis, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Eric Bush, Chief Officer, Ministry of Home Affairs, Cheryl Richards, Director of Public Prosecutions and Jen Dixon, Director, Department of Children and Family Services.

Upcoming seminars will focus on the Sister Islands and Immigration.
