Cayman Islands school reading fair
Triple C’s Enrichment Program Continues to Soar
On Thursday, March 12th, Triple C School’s Enrichment Program held a Rubric Reading Fair in the school’s multi-purpose hall which featured 38 students booths with student presenters. The presenters ranged from Grade 2 – 5 students. Each presentation and booth featured the book that each student selected to read and research. The books featured at the event ranged from James & the Giant Peach, Beauty & the Beast, Sofia the First – The Floating Palace, Anne of Green Gables, and so much more. For all the students preparing for this event was a big deal but very rewarding.
Ezrie Tibbetts, Grade 5, whose character was Anne Shirley from the book Anne of Green Gables said, “The reading fair helped me realize that books are not just about stories. They are adventures you will never forget.” Naomi Conliff-Muir, Grade 5, whose character was Nancy Drew from the Nancy Drew mystery novel The Secret of the Old Clock said, “I found that the reading fair was very interesting. I learned that it does not matter what you do but how you do it. I loved that everyone tried their hardest.” The students were judged based on the division they were in and the student winners were selected for the best overall presentation. The grand prize for the winners was that they would present their displays at the George Town Public Library on Saturday, March 20. Students who received an honorable mention had their boards displayed at the library for everyone to view as well.

Mrs. Martha Minton, Enrichment Program Coordinator and Grade 4 teacher, said, “I was so impressed with the storyboards, costumes and presentations by the students. Judging was difficult, because all the displays were so well done. It has been rewarding, as the Enrichment Coordinator to see these students progress from year to year. I marvel at the level of presentation skills from the fourth & fifth graders, after being in the program for several years. For some of them, this was their third or fourth presentation. Our second & third graders did a wonderful job as well. This was the first presentation for many of them. I can’t wait to see them blossom as they progress through the next several years with the aid of the program. Other students in the school benefit as well when they become the audience for
the presenters. I was very proud of our kids!”
Mr. Jennifer Allen, Vice-Principal of Academics & Elementary, said, “I was delighted to see how excited the students were about reading. The Reading Fair provided an opportunity for our students to show their own unique interest in reading as well as their creativity and strengths through their presentations. The teachers did a fabulous job in encouraging and guiding the students, and I am very proud of all of our students who participated.
The Enrichment Program has been in existence for six years. It started out as an after-school program for the first year where students did high-level learning activities. The second year the students had to qualify for the program with all A’s & B’s on their report card but could be removed from the program if their grades started to slip. Grades 2-5 were involved in various activities & projects each year. Some of the projects that we have done over the years have been two Wax Museums; an Invention Fair; an Author’s Exhibit where students wrote and illustrated their own books, and the Reading fair this year. Every year the students run their own School Supply Store where students are the entrepreneurs for their own business, clocking-in to work, keeping inventory, and figuring expenses & profit for the store. The students have also built an Egg-Cracking Machines using multiple steps with simple machines. To learn more about Triple C’s Enrichment Program, please email [email protected]
