The Cayman Islands Red Cross boosts Sister Islands resilience

Red Cross BracThe Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC) is assisting communities throughout all three Cayman Islands to build capacity and enhance resilience.

As part of the initiative, residents in Cayman Brac have undergone intensive Disaster Management training, and for the past six months have been conducting an extensive Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (VCA) of their community in an effort to better understand their risks and assets.

The VCA collected information from over 100 surveys and this data was then shared with the community.

At a stakeholders’ meeting the main issue brought to the attention of the team was the lack of toilet facilities in the Watering Place park.

Given the importance of the location, and the community’s identification of the issue, the CIRC is assisting the Cayman Brac Disaster Management team in their efforts to bring remedy the situation by installing new restroom facilities in the area.

Groundbreaking for the project took place this March with the assistance of the Deputy Premier and Brac Representative, Hon. Moses Kirkconnell.
