Digicel to be anchor tenant for new retail unity project in Cayman Islands
GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN: Robert Johnson Design and Architecture today announced that it has secured an anchor tenant for the new retail units on North Church Street in George Town. Cayman’s leading communications provider, Digicel, is expected to be the first tenant to set up in the new units that are recently completed.
The contemporary building, intended for high-end retail tenants, was designed by architect Robert Johnson to be fashionable looking and highly functional in order to maximize on economic activity. Speaking about the design element of the building, Johnson commented: “One of the most important rules of retail design is to make your tenants highly visible. The more visible a storefront is, the more window shopping it gets and the more you’ll get people walking inside for a purchase”.
The new retail location for Digicel is part of a wider plan to roll out a footprint of stores that offer customers an enhanced shopping experience. Digicel recently opened the first of its experience stores on Island in Camana Bay. Boasting Cayman’s first and only touchscreen wall coupled with a full range of live display devices, the Digicel store gives customers a one of a kind experience while they shop.
Referencing their new retail plans, Digicel Cayman CEO, Martin Bould, commented; “Our vision is to bring a new experience to retail in Cayman. We want our customers to walk into any of our retail stores and experience everything we have to offer through the world of technology, data and entertainment. When we came across Robert’s design, we found that it perfectly complimented the experience that we wanted to deliver to our customers.”
The building is tailored with diagonals and colors chosen originally from running shoes. Ultimately, it is fun to look at, like looking at a new piece of fashion or technology such as a mobile phone. It’s about embracing the new and enjoying the new. Contemporary ideas are advocated here and this progressive architecture embraces the future.
“We’re very excited to have a progressive brand like Digicel as our anchor tenant in the North Church Street location” commented Johnson. “There are clear commonalities in what we’re both trying to achieve from a consumer experience standpoint and I’m excited to see the building come to life with their new experience store”.
Digicel is expected to open its new George Town experience store in summer of this year.
