Edna M. Moyle Primary School Receives Laptop Donation

Recently, Edna M. Moyle Primary School (EMPS) received a generous donation of ten (10) laptops, to further assist with teaching and learning at the school. The Acer Aspire Switch 10 laptops are multifunctional machines that can be used as laptops or as tablets.

The donation was made by Mr. Roland Stewart of Paramount Investments and was arranged by EMPS parent Mr. Jay Ebanks.

On hand to receive the laptops from Mr. Stewart and Mr. Ebanks were Hon. Tara Rivers, Minister for Education, Mr. Winston Connolly, Councillor to the Minister for Education, Mr. Steven Durksen, ICT Manager in the Ministry of Education, and Ms. Marcia Rennie, Principal of EMPS.

Minister Rivers thanked Mr. Stewart for the donation saying, “I would like to thank Mr. Stewart for his generous donation. I would also like to thank Mr. Jay Ebanks for being a parent who supports his children’s school and making this donation a reality. We live in a modern age where technology is at the forefront of almost everything we do. Incorporating the use of technology in the classroom helps to assist students with their learning. It also enables them to become more comfortable using such devices, by staying up to date with the technology that is being used and driving innovation in our world today.”

Principal of EMPS Ms. Marcia Rennie was extremely grateful to Mr. Stewart for the donation and provided details on how the laptops would be used. “We plan to use the laptops to set up an assisted reading and writing programme for some of our Special Education Needs (SEN) students who would be better able to access the curriculum with this help,” said Ms. Rennie.

ICT Manager Mr. Steven Durksen gave further details on the laptops. He said, “We are very appreciative of this donation to Edna Moyle Primary School. This is a unique hybrid device which can function for students as a laptop or a tablet due to its removable keyboard. In addition to the ICT integration with literacy and numeracy that Ms. Rennie highlighted, the ICT Team is also excited to use these devices as a pilot for deploying Windows 8 and Office 365 at EMPS before rolling out to other schools. Also, these tablets can be used at EMPS as e-book readers with our new online library solution that we are currently rolling out to all schools.”
