Cayman Islands Rotary Club celebrate 50 years with “The Magic of the Musicals”

magic-musicalsThe Rotary Club of Grand Cayman will be celebrating 50 years of being chartered and established on island later this year.

The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman’s annual fundraiser over those 50 years has really gone to town to make the evening as fun as possible, while holding onto the core reason for being there: raising funds to allow the club to support various local and international projects.

This year will be no exception. On May 29 at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman there will be a lavish black tie affair and a musical extravaganza titled “The Magic of the Musicals”. Of course, the organizers are not revealing what other treats are in store on the night, but it’s certainly an event to mark on the social calendar.

There will be some amazing live auction items on which to bid. In previous years these have ranged from a trip to the Grammy Awards to Bono’s guitar!

The Rotary Club of Grand Cayman in those 50 years has done many wonderful things for this community and others.

A few examples include hands-on projects such as the Frances Bodden Girls Home and the Bonaventure Boys Home, Family Resource Centre, Nurse Josie’s Senior Centre, resale of donated furniture to the community, annual Senior Citizens Boxing Day Party (where they have over 300 seniors attend), Anchor Halfway house and the Bridge Foundation, Meals on Wheels and CCTV for John Gray High School.

The list of projects that this club supports is a long one, and its members are genuinely part of the club in order to provide service to others. A great example of this is Derek Haines, who in 2014 ran six marathons having just turned 66 years old! This was a feat in itself, but he did it to raise over $1million in order to build Cayman its very own hospice facility.

The money raised on this evening allows the incoming president (Lynda Mitchel) to fund the projects and requests for help that she and her board receive in the coming year. If you only go to one charity event this year, “The Magic of the Musicals” at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman is a must!
