Census workers thanked by the Governor

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, hands over a certificate of appreciation to Radio Cayman’s Talk Today host Sterling Dwayne Ebanks in recognition of his work in the census campaign.

Participants in the 2010 Census exercise, including nearly 100 census workers, received thanks during a pleasant evening of camaraderie.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE presented certificates of appreciation to mark the efforts of participants in the census exercise (that included the actual count from 10 October to 16 December 2010).

The Governor and Mrs. Marie-Beatrice Taylor recently hosted the Economics and Statistics Office-organised reception on Government House lawns.

Emphasising that a census is critical to developing good policy, the Governor said the 2010 census-generated fact that 135 different nationalities live in harmony in the Cayman Islands should evoke pride and be viewed as a model for all.

“The data collected by the exemplary census, which was carried out very professionally, will be viewed in detail soon,” Mr. Taylor noted.

ESO Director Maria Zingapan said the detailed census report would be posted on www.eso.ky following its release in the LA. Without all participants’ work and the extensive publicity, the census would not have run as smoothly as it did, she said.

Ms. Zingapan hoped the details, once released, would be used to inform decision-making in the public and private sectors, making the data relevant to everyday life in the Cayman Islands.
