While attempting to put his dangerous past behind him, retired black ops agent Robert McCall (Washington) crosses paths with teenager Alina (Chloë Grace Moretz), a sex trafficking victim under control of the Russian Mafia. Although McCall promised his recently deceased wife that he would leave his old life behind, he feels he has to save Alina.
