Cayman Islands Enterprise City seeking young entrepreneurs for Summer Internship Programme
“Summer in the City” initiative enters its third year as CEC and zone companies welcome young Caymanians into the tech zone for experience and opportunities
Cayman Enterprise City is inviting young Caymanians to apply for several internships available in the special economic zone this summer through its “Summer in the City” internship programme, a component of CEC’s Enterprise Cayman Initiative. CEC’s internship programme has been so successful and sought after that CEC has increased the number of internships available this year. When the programme launched in 2013, students competed for two spots through a video contest. Last summer twelve students spent part of their summer in the zone, three of which secured full-time jobs in the zone at the end of their internships. Cayman Enterprise City and zone companies that have embraced the programme are working together to firm up this summer’s internship positions.
“No matter where they get placed in the Special Economic Zone, all interns will gain interesting experience with international zone companies; some in technology, others in media or commodities,” said Sasha Carrig, CEC’s Client Services Executive responsible for running the internship programme. “It may be challenging, but they’ll meet zone clients and get a chance to network at zone internship events, and if they are keen to learn and work hard, then this will be an unparalleled experience for them.”
Two interns will also work alongside the zone developers; one in Marketing and the other in Client Services to learn how CEC markets the Cayman Islands to the world and relocates companies here respectively. They’ll also observe CEC’s Business Development team to see what strategies the team members use to attract clients from the fields of commodities, internet, science and technology, media and marketing, and maritime services sector.
Mentoring is a part of “Summer in the City” and CEC’s Chief Development Officer, and local architect, Cindy O’Hara will seek to serve as a role model for the interns. A Caymanian entrepreneur with several successful businesses of her own, O’Hara will share experiences and offer tips to students who may wish to set up their own business one day. Encouraging the young people to expand their horizons and follow their dreams will be a part of O’Hara’s mentoring role, and one she takes seriously.
Students interested in spending their “Summer in the City” are asked to email Sasha Carrig at [email protected] with their resume and a compelling, well-written cover letter explaining why they should win a place. CEC also recommends that they load their resumes directly to www.ZoneJobs.ky as some of the internship positions are posted on that forum.
