Local poetry book presented to Cayman Islands Secondary Schools

DI Govt. HS Principals Receive Chit Chat BooksOn 21st April, 2015, Principals of the Government High Schools along with the Director of the Cayman Islands Further Education Centre (CIFEC) were each presented with the book titled “Chit Chat”, a collection of Caymanian Photography and Poetry. This book was created by Caymanian women Ms. Alta Bodden-Solomon and Ms. Simone Scott.

Through their love of all things Caymanian, Ms. Bodden-Solomon and Ms. Scott felt it important to donate a copy of their book to the high schools, promoting Caymanian culture to the students.

Thanking the authors for their kind donation, Acting Chief Education Officer Ms. Lyneth Monteith commented, “I would like to thank Ms. Bodden-Solomon and Ms. Scott for their gracious donation to our high schools and CIFEC. The books are useful for all year groups and the fact that they focus on Caymanian photography and poetry allows the students to be exposed to and share in their Caymanian culture.”

The authors also organised a poetry competition for all Cayman Islands Government High School students. Students were asked to choose a photograph they like from the authors’ book “Chit Chat” that inspires them to write an original poem about it. Poems were to be submitted along with the page number in the book of the photograph with the student’s name, age and school to Ms. Scott. The deadline for submission was May 29th 2015.
