Scotland: Rangers suspend rights for four major shareholders in battle to unmask mystery investors

The Rangers board has turned up the heat in the battle to unmask their mystery investors and clean up the club.

The voting rights of four major shareholders have been suspended after they failed to respond to requests for information about who ultimately owns the stakes in the company.

Blue Pitch Holdings, ATP Investments Ltd, Norne Anstalt and Putney Holdings Ltd hold a combined 8.5 million shares in Rangers International Football Club plc, giving them a 10.4 per cent stake.

The Ibrox hierarchy, acting in compliance with Rangers’ articles of association, has also prohibited the sale of their holdings “until the board is satisfied it has received all of the information required”.

Until ownership information is provided, the shares held by the four companies are essentially worthless.

Directors are particularly keen to identify who owns the four million shares held by Blue Pitch and those of Margarita, who were among the original shareholders when Charles Green’s consortium bought the business and assets of Rangers Football Club plc as it entered liquidation.

Everything about the company, other than its main address in the Cayman Islands, has remained shrouded in mystery.

Some supporters believe Green and his backers are involved in Blue Pitch, but that has never been proven.

ATP Investments and Putney Holdings are registered at a business address in the Turks and Caicos Islands, while Norne Anstalt is registered in Liechtenstein capital Vaduz.
