Spotlight on dog therapy

Next week (2 January 2012) GIS Spotlight rediscovers treasures at the archives, reviews a new therapy approach and revisits students as they participate in safe activities.

Who was Annie Huldah Bodden and what role did she play in Cayman’s history? Come with us as we find out at the Cayman Islands National Archive.

Hear from the first nominated female member of the Legislative Assembly and learn what kind of woman she was.

Then we’re off to the Lighthouse School where man’s best friend shows us yet again how he earned the title. We meet the rescue-trained Border Collie Murphy who provides a new approach to therapy for special-needs individuals.

Finally, we revisit the new afterschool programme featuring a plethora of activities, including sports, performing arts and hands-on lessons, that are equal parts fun and usefulness.

See how some 800 students are becoming more savvy, healthier and fitter in a fun and safe atmosphere. Find out too how you can volunteer your time to the public-private sector programme and influence a young person’s life for the better.

The weekly programme now airs on Cayman27 at 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, and 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
