The Cayman Islands Under 15 Boys National Football Team came from behind to defeat Antigua & Barbuda 3-1 and claim a spot in the semi finals of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 15 Boys’ Championships being played in St. Maarten.
Goals from Kareem Foster (47th), Cody Ebanks (51st) and Franco Murillo-Johnson (56th) cancelled out Antigua’s 45th minute strike in their quarter final encounter. The victory guaranteed the local boys a place in the semi finals, which are scheduled for Friday, August 14.
The Cayman Islands will face the Dominican Republic, who defeated St. Vincent & The Grenadines 5-1 in an earlier quarter final match-up. In the second semi final, Curacao will face St. Lucia after Curacao defeated Anguilla 7-0 and St. Lucia beat Grenada 4-0.
On hearing the result, CIFA Vice President and Interim President Bruce Blake said, “It’s a great day for the National Youth Football Programme in the Cayman Islands. The players and coaching staff have done a superb job so far in St. Maarten and we have complete confidence in their abilities to continue winning. The entire country will be following the boys come Friday as they take the field against the Dominican Republic for a chance to play in the final. This is truly a wonderful achievement. ”
