From CFU
The Cayman Islands Under 15 National Football Team claimed third place in the 2015 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under 15 Championships on Sunday afternoon following an enthralling
5-4 sudden death penalty shootout win over St. Lucia in St. Maarten.
Top scorer for the Cayman Islands Kareem Foster opened the scoring in the 8th minute but St. Lucia levelled the score just before the half time break. Both teams searched for the winner in an exciting second half but to no avail. With the game ending 1-1, it would be penalties that would decide third place in the Championships.
Cayman’s standout goalkeeper Albertini Holness was the hero of the day as he saved the first penalty and ironically, scored the deciding penalty in sudden death. His heroic exploits earned him Man of the Match accolades.
Curacao were crowned Under 15 champions after defeating the Dominican Republic 4-2 in the final game played after the third place match.
Cayman’s starting lineup for the third place game included Albertini Holness, Cody Ebanks, Jalen Walters, D’Andre Rowe, Devonte Morejon, Gonzalo McLaughlin, Kareem Foster, Rohelio Wright, Kion Parchmont and Jose Ebanks.
The team returns to the Island on Tuesday, August 18.
