Man arrested after police chase
A driver suspected of driving under the influence has been arrested and is recovering in hospital after making off from police in West Bay.
Around 10 :20 pm on Friday 30th December, Uniform Officers were on patrol in the vicinity of the Ritz Carlton when their attention was drawn to a black Honda Torneo.
On seeing the police vehicle the driver of the car made off at a high speed. The police driver followed the car, attempting to stop it using blue lights and horns.
The driver failed to stop and continued to drive at a high speed. A short time later he stopped the car on Rossett Close St., got out of the vehicle and ran into the path of the oncoming police vehicle.
The Police vehicle struck the suspect, who sustained pelvic injuries. He was conveyed to the Hospital for treatment. His condition is described as stable.
The man has been arrested on suspicion of DUI and dangerous driving.
Police enquiries into the incident continue. As is the normal practice following a collision involving a police vehicle, all of the circumstances surrounding the collision will be thoroughly investigated.
