Cayman Islands Computer Services’ announce new interim director

David Smailes 1Following the retirement of Gilbert McLaughlin, the Ministry of Home Affairs is happy to announce that David Smailes has been appointed interim Director for the Computer Services Department for three months.

Mr. Smailes, who has lived in the Cayman Islands since 1992 and who was previously in the private sector, has over 25 years’ experience in various IT capacities culminating in global IT leadership positions within the financial services and legal sectors. These senior leadership roles included responsibility for the alignment of business and IT strategies and the rapid transformation of the IT functions to deliver quality services to all stakeholders.

Over the coming months, Mr. Smailes will be leading the implementation of an IT Governance framework within David SmailesCSD. He has also been tasked with planning and launching initiatives to improve customer service, IT Security and IT project management.

“I welcome Mr. Smailes to this interim role and thank him for taking the challenge of positively influencing the staff at CSD with his passion for world class IT management experience,” Chief Officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Eric Bush, JP commented, announcing the appointment.

During this time, the Ministry of Home Affairs will conduct an open recruitment process to fill the substantive Director role.
