Williamson Branch in The Caymans
By John Lawless From Bluegrass Today
Last month, when the first hints of winter weather were making themselves felt in parts of the United States, Williamson Branch was sweating it out down in the Cayman Islands. The family band, consisting of Kevin and Debbie Williamson and their three talented daughters, were in the islands to perform their bluegrass Gospel music at a number of churches and other venues.
As fate would have it, they caught the attention of Cayman Life, a new television series that captures happenings in Cayman for the benefit of local residents. The show airs on Logic’s IPTV Channel 33 in the islands, and online.
The first 7 minutes of their debut program was dedicated to the Williamsons, and captures both snippets of live performance at Chapel Church of God, and interviews with the members of the family. It’s a great introduction to the family and their music.
Branchin’ Out – Williamson Branch. Williamson Branch has just released their second album, Branchin’ Out, which showcases the group’s strong family harmony, but primarily the powerful lead vocals of eldest daughter, Melody. At 17 years of age, she sings with a confidence and authority quite rare in young vocalists.
But everyone sings here, with poignant duets between Debbie and Kevin, and close family harmony on all the tracks. Middle daughter Kadence, at 13, shows tremendous promise as a singer, and six-year-old Caroline contributes as well on a precious version of Grandma’s Feather Bed.
Becky Buller, Jeff Easter, Barry Crabtree and Craig Fletcher appear as guests.
Branchin’ Out is available to radio programmers now at Airplay Direct, and to consumers from the band web site and popular download sites.
