Sportsmax scores renewal of Carriage Deals
MCTV, Digicel Play Amongst Cable Operators Set To Continue Broadcast of SportsMax and SportsMax2
Bridgetown, Barbados – Wednesday 3rd February, 2016. SportsMax has signed up a raft of renewal carriage agreements with cable operators across the Caribbean for its SportsMax and SportsMax2 channels, meaning that across the Caribbean sports fans will continue to have access to the best sports content from the Home of Champions, it was announced today.
MCTV and Digicel Play are the first two operators to come on board prior to the upcoming deadline, which extends to cable operators in the rest of the Caribbean. A number of other operators are set to sign up over the coming weeks.
An attractive feature of the new carriage agreements is that SportsMax will be offering its channels in HD, meaning that sports fans can revel in watching the crisp, crystal clear action of the most amazing sporting content like La Liga, the Indian Premier League, UEFA Champions League, the Barclays Premier League and the NBA.
MCTV, the largest operator in Barbados, has carried SportsMax since 2006. Digicel Play meanwhile is the new kid on the block and in addition to Barbados, now offers SportsMax in Anguilla, Dominica, Jamaica, Montserrat, Nevis, Turks and Caicos and Trinidad and Tobago.
Chief MCTV Officer Andrew Greene stated that “Our primary objective is to ensure MCTV’s cable subscribers receive the best value possible. The renewal with SportsMax and upcoming offer of the SportsMax channels in HD ensures that from a sports perspective, MCTV is accomplishing this objective.”
These renewals are quite timely for sports fans of these cable operators as the sports schedule on SportsMax heats up heading towards the summer. The SportsMax schedule will include the Indian Premier League in April; the UEFA Champions League final rounds from February to April culminating with the Final in May; the end of season battle for supremacy in La Liga, the NBA and the Barclays Premier League; as well as this summer’s Copa America football and Diamond League track & field.
Digicel Play Group CEO, John Suranyi, commented; “Our aim is to bring our valued customers the best and most engaging content from across the globe. SportsMax represents the very best that Barbados and the Caribbean has to offer and is sure to delight our ever-growing audience.”
The SportsMax channels remain the only indigenous regional sports channel and the most widely distributed Caribbean based channel. As has been its practice since it started with affiliates throughout the Caribbean, the carriage agreements with all operators are based on similar terms.
Commenting on the new deals, SportsMax CEO, Olly McIntosh, said; “Our new carriage agreements are in line with our regional strategy to offer long term carriage agreements, based on market rates while providing enhanced services. SportsMax continues to be the Home of Champions and we are working hard to make the sports we love available to all. We are delighted to have had these major players in the SportsMax family and overjoyed that they will remain so.”
