San Juan, PR, February 07, 2016 –(PR.com)– Today, the Islands Society announced the appointment of Mayra Gottardi as the Community Engagement Manager of the Caribbean Islands Society. Ms. Gottardi will now assist in the Islands Society’s efforts to build a new community dedicated to increasing the participation of Caribbean islanders in foreign affairs and overseas engagements in order to bring about positive changes in their local communities.

“Being a future graduate in Political Sciences and International Relations of a Latin American University has taught me that when changes are in desperate need to be made and communities are being overlooked, the only way of making real differences is by empowering people to do them by themselves,” says Mayra. “I look forward to working with community leaders along the Caribbean islands to inspire people and bring a new life to them. They must have a say when it comes to foreign affairs and cultural relations.”

Over the next few months, Gottardi will be helping with the drafting of a strategic plan and messaging framework for the Caribbean Islands Society. She will also be responsible for helping the organization better understand the needs of islanders across the region and then sharing that information with others through blogs, forums, social media and other media channels. The engagement with new think tanks in the region will be of exceptional importance.

“In the past, I have had the opportunity to visit many Caribbean Islands as well as others located in the Pacific and Indian Ocean,” adds Gottardi. “Based on these experiences, I’ve noticed that all of this communities share a deep lack of opportunities, especially among minorities, so I feel strongly confident that with the implementation of the community projects and next generation leaders, a massive change will take place. When a few voices start being heard, many others start to talk and thus, we will start listening to a whole new society eager to share their culture and ideas.”

About Mayra Gottardi

Mayra is the new Community Engagement Manager of the Caribbean Islands Society. Despite living her entire life in Argentina -a geographically continental country- she has visited many Caribbean Islands, such as Dominican Republic and Cuba, and feels strong ties with fellow Latin American communities. She is currently graduating with two Bachelor’s in Political Sciences and International Relations at Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires, and hopes to be helpful in inspiring islanders to participate actively in foreign affairs.
