Boat Smuggling Ganja Intercepted; Three Charged with Trafficking

The Joint Marine Unit vessel Guardian, while at sea, came upon a vessel drifting approximately twenty miles off East End. JMU officers discovered three men on board and a large amount of ganja. The men were arrested on suspicion of importation, and they and the vessel were taken to Grand Cayman. A firearm and sixty-four rounds of ammunition were also recovered.
Two men, age 31 and 34, from West Bay and George Town, respectively, and one man from Jamaica, age 33, have been charged with Trafficking (197 lbs. of Ganja) and will appear in court today. Following the execution of a search warrant, the man, age 34, from George Town, was also charged with Possessing Ganja with Intent to Supply and other drug-related offences.
All men are appearing in court today.

Construction Materials Stolen at Public High School

Saturday, 6 February, just before 3:00PM, officers responded to a report of a burglary at John Gray High School. Security personnel observed three men near the construction site and storage area at the rear of the high school compound off Walkers Road. When security personnel headed toward the site, three men ran from the storage building, and escaped in a white car.
Since last week George Town CID has been investigating the theft of a large quantity of construction materials, including copper wire, from the same storage area at the construction site.
Detectives are urging that those with information regarding this theft of materials icontact George Town CID at 949-4722 or the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS).
Shots Fired in the Vicinity of School House Road in George Town

Just after 2:00AM this morning, 8 February, officers responded to a report of a number of shots fired in the School House Road area of George Town. Police and responding to the scene and SOCO officers located and recovered three (3) spent shell casings.
The matter is under investigation by George Town CID. Detectives are asking that anyone who heard or saw anything around 2:00AM in the area of School House Road please contact GTPS at 949-4222 or the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS).
Man Arrested and Charged with Possession of an Imitation Firearm

On Friday, 5 February, police arrested a 23-year-old man from West Bay in relation to an incident that occurred in the vicinity of Eastern Avenue, Georgetown on 29 January. During that incident it was reported that person(s) were threatened with a firearm and assaulted.
The man has been charged with the offences of possession of an imitation firearm with intent, threats to kill and assault (actual bodily harm).
The man is due in court today.
Two men charged with Conspiracy to Defraud

On Monday, 1 February the RCIPS Financial Crime Unit received a report from a local bank regarding suspicious cards that had been retained by one of its ATMs. The FCU immediately initiated an operation which led to the arrests of two men at a local hotel where they were staying. A quantity of Starbucks gift cards and debit cards and a card reader were also recovered. One man, age 21, of Canada, was formally charged for the offence of Conspiracy to Defraud the Retail Banking System of the Cayman Islands and appeared in court on Thursday, 4 February, at which time he was remanded to HMP Northward. He is back in court today, Monday, 8 February.
The second man, age 25, also a Canadian national, has been charged with Conspiracy to Defraud as well and is in court today.
