Miss Cayman Islands gets fit for DG’s 5K Challenge
Newly crowned Miss Cayman Islands Monyque Brooks put her best foot forward last night (29th February) to help launch the Off the Couch fitness programme.
The eight-week initiative is to get people in shape for the 2016 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge in April.
Organised by the civil service GAB Walk Run Club, Off the Couch is suitable for all fitness levels of walkers and runners.
Ms Brooks joined Deputy Governor Franz Manderson for the launch at the staff entrance to the Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue, where the GAB club meets every Monday.
Both Ms Brooks and Mr. Manderson have benefitted from exercise routines to help them improve their health and they invite others to do the same while raising funds for a good cause.
“I am delighted to be with the GAB Walk Run Club for the Off the Couch programme and encourage as many people as possible to join us and get fit for the DG’s 5K Challenge,” said Ms Brooks, who works in the Department of Tourism.
Dates for the 2016 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge are Sunday, 17th April on Cayman Brac and Sunday, 24th April on Grand Cayman. Registration details will be announced nearer the time.
