12814719_1163234597034830_3960822849268134588_nThe organizers of the CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival, in partnership with the Cayman Media Academy, CNCF, Friends of Film and the National Gallery, will be offering free workshops for aspiring filmmakers and actors leading up to the Festival which takes place in July.
Festival Director Tony Mark will be conducting the three workshops which are open to people of all skill levels and experience who are interested in learning how to make a short film, write a screenplay or act.
“There are a lot of talented people on this island who may have a desire to make a short film or write a script for a movie but they’re just not sure where to start; these workshops are for those people,” said Tony.  “I’m hoping that some more film submissions for CayFilm will come out of these workshops. We had about 50 films from local filmmakers at the 2015 festival and we would like to see at least the same response again this year.”
Saturday, 19 March — 2:00pm to 4:30pm at The National Gallery
“Making a Short Film”
Whether you are already making movies or would like to start, there will be something for everyone.  Learn about the three “P” s of making a film: Pre-Production, Production and Post Production.  Topics will include lighting techniques, tricks of the trade that will give short films a professional polish and industry secrets that will get films Festival-ready.

“Writing a Screenplay”
Ever had an idea for a screenplay but thought it might be too hard?  Whether you are a first time writer or a seasoned novel writer, come and learn techniques for breaking down your story and using the proper format to deliver a professional screenplay. Hear about ways to be able to write quickly and effectively while developing strong characters and deep structured plots for either short films or full length features.
Saturday, 21 May — 2:00pm to 4:30pm at Studio at Harquaill Theater
“Acting for the Screen”
CayFilm will be bringing some film production companies to Cayman soon.  This means the Cayman Islands may become a movie haven!  Learn some acting techniques so you will be ready for them when they come.  Screen acting is different from stage acting so we will go over the differences. All experiences are welcome as everyone will take home something from this workshop including a videotaping of yourself acting out a scene.
