Brush fire in Cayman Islands capital kept fire service crews busy
Last Sunday (13) an empty lot off Anthony Drive behind Passadora Place, close to the George Town Cayman Islands Hospital, caught fire and became a major problem.
Crews from the Cayman Islands fire department were deployed and were able to bring the fire under control before it spread and caused damage to adjoining properties.
Bad behavior on the rise in the legal profession

In August 2015, during a tense discussion in a deposition of a woman accusing JPMorgan Chase Bank NA of improperly seizing her home, the plaintiff’s attorney stopped to duck her head under the conference room table.
“I asked her what she was doing,” said JPMorgan’s lawyer, Brian Rich, according to the deposition transcript. “She indicated that she was looking to see if there was anything between my legs.”
The plaintiff’s attorney, Mary Alice Moore Leonhardt, later apologized and said she lost her composure after being “chronically and persistently exposed to condescending behavior by attorney Rich.”
In June 2014, a Florida state judge became upset after an assistant public defender adamantly refused to waive his client’s right to a speedy trial.
Baroness Scotland to address regional Heads in Antigua

Commonwealth Secretary General designate, Baroness Patricia Scotland, will deliver the feature address at 15thConference of Presidents & Governors-General of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) that will be held here later this month.
The March 29 –31 event will allow for discussions on a wide range of issues, including presentations by Sir Christopher Geidt the Private Secretary to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth on the topic the “The Crown and the Caribbean Realms – The Relationship”
The relevance of a National Honours System in an independent country will be presented by Retired Major David Rankin-Hunt, of the Norfolk Herald of Arms Extraordinary.
President of the Trinidad-based Caribbean Court of Justice, (CCJ), Sir Dennis Byron will also address the regional heads of state on the role and function of the court that was established in 2001 to replace the London-based Privy Council as the region’s final court.

Children’s Film Competition Registration Extended
The Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) has extended its registration deadline for students wishing to enter their short films in the Young Image Makers (YIM) competition.
Budding filmmakers can now submit their entries now through Wednesday, 13th April, 2016.
The Foundation is allowing students more time over the Easter holidays to work on their films.

Minister Marion Hall heads to Grand Cayman
High profile dancehall artiste turned gospel minister, Marion Hall, formerly known as Lady Saw is heading to Cayman.
Hall is scheduled to perform at Concert at the Lion Center in Grand Cayman on June 5.
“I will be there in the name of Jesus,” said Hall on Instagram as she shared a promotional flyer for the event.
Hall is also expected to make her gospel debut overseas from March 25-27.

Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day
In an effort to organise activities that embody this year’s Honouring Women’s Month theme, “Step it Up for Gender Equality” the Family Resource Centre (FRC) is encouraging employers from various fields and all levels of employees to participate in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day throughout the month of March.
The main purpose of this event is to educate the youth on various career options and to empower them to pursue careers without the boundaries of traditional gender stereotypes.

Express Processing Available for Business Licensing Applications
Business owners are reminded that they can obtain express processing for their trade and business licensing applications.
To receive licences within five business days, persons can pay $400 for grants and $100 for renewals, in addition to other required application fees. Along with complete applications, all fees are to be submitted to the Business Licensing Counter, located on the first floor in the Government Administration Building, between 9am and 4pm, Mondays to Fridays.
