MIAMI, FL –  HBO has announced the debut of a new original limited series, The Night Of, to premiere this summer exclusively on HBO. Created by Richard Price (The Wire de HBO) and Steve Zaillian (Schindler’s List), and starring John Turturro and Riz Ahmed, the series delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.

In addition to Turturro and Ahmed, The Night Of, includes performances from Michael Kenneth Williams (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and Bessie), Bill Camp (Birdman and 12 Years a Slave), Jeannie Berlin, Poorna Jagannathan, Payman Maadi, Glenne Headly, Amara Karan, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Paul Sparks (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), Ben Shenkman (HBO’s Angels in America), Afton Williamson (MAX Prime’s Banshee), Paulo Costanzo, Ned Eisenberg, Mohammad Bakri, Nabil Elouahabi (Zero Dark Thirty), Ashley Thomas, Glenn Fleshler, Chip Zien and Max Casella (HBO’s Vinyl).

The eight-part series includes an extended credit list from some of HBO’s most notable producers. The Night Of is executive produced by Steven Zaillian, Richard Price, Jane Tranter (HBO’s Getting On and Rome) and Peter Moffat (HBO’s Einstein & Eddington). It is the last project executive produced by James Gandolfini (HBO’s The Sopranos) before his death in 2013. The Night Of is co-executive produced by Garrett Basch (Life Itself), Nancy Sanders (HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn) and Mark Armstrong (HBO’s Hemingway & Gellhorn). The first episode was produced by Mark A. Baker (Damages), with Scott Ferguson serving as producer for episodes two through eight. Steve Zaillian directed episodes one through three, and five through eight, while James Marsh (The Theory of Everything) directed the fourth episode.
