Man reunites with cop who found him in dumpster and saved his life 25 years ago

reunitedBy Brian Koerber

After 25 years, Robin Barton has been reunited with the police officer who saved his life just hours after he was born — a reunion that has also spawned finding Barton’s biological parents.

Retired policeman Michael Buelna discovered Barton in a dumpster in Santa Ana, California, on Nov. 21, 1989, with his umbilical cord still attached, ABC 7 reports.

A couple from Orange County, Elizabeth Barton and Daniel Fernandez, adopted the newborn. “I hoped that someday I would see him again,” Buelna told ABC, and his hope has come to fruition.

After the reunion between Buelna and Barton aired on ABC on April 24 2015, Barton’s biological father, Marcos Meza, came forward and said that he had been searching for his child for years.

According to Meza, he had an affair with Barton’s biological mother, Serena Diaz, who was 19 at the time she gave birth. Now, Barton has plans to meet her, too; the two spoke on the phone Saturday evening.

Diaz was later arrested for child endangerment and attempted murder; Meza was arrested for attempted murder. Meza claims he did not know that Barton was abandoned in a dumpster until police questioned him.

Barton was raised as an only child, but his recent reunion with his biological father has also introduced him to five sisters.

“It’s been an honor and privilege to be your mom,” Elizabeth Barton told her adopted son. Robin added that he has been “blessed with a great family.”
