Jamaica’s Northern Caribbean University (NCU), a Seventh Day Adventist conservative religious institution, has partnered with EMED Global Jamaica to research, cultivate, and process medicinal cannabis for the benefit of patients suffering from chronic illnesses.

Dr. Trevor Gardner, President of the Northern Caribbean University, and Duane Boise, President and CEO of EMED, today signed a multifaceted agreement which will allow for the research and development of medical cannabis in Jamaica.

EMED and the Northern Caribbean University Department of Natural and Applied Sciences, Allied Health and Nursing will work together to develop new approaches to advance the study of medicinal cannabis and lead to greater knowledge on the therapeutic efficacy of cannabinoids in medicine.

“We have substantial anecdotal and research evidence confirming the positive applications of this medicine. Different varieties of plants contain different compounds which target different diseases,” Boise said. “Our research will compile medical results from patients as part of our studies.”
NCU, having opened a new agricultural research center, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to test soil, plants and water quality to insure the highest quality of Jamaican medical cannabis for patients.

Jamaican Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett was at the signing event during the International Diabetes Conference discussing the strong potential to further develop the Jamaican Health Tourism market as a result of the collaboration.
EMED will be introducing an innovative telemedicine platform and other health informatics, which will establish Jamaica as the epicenter of the medical cannabis industry for the Caribbean and American markets.
