Conditional Release Law – Comparisons between Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom
Similarly to the disparity between the UK and Cayman Rehabilitation of Offenders Law where rehabilitation periods for Caymanians are over 3 times higher in some cases the position in the UK is also less severe than the Cayman position.
Cayman prisoners will be on license for the entire remainder of their sentence whereas the UK only requires 75%.
Cayman prisoners have to serve 60% of their sentence but the UK only 50% before eligible for release.

7. (1) Prisoners shall be eligible for conditional release as follows –
(b) prisoners serving a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, other than prisoners referred to in paragraph (a), are eligible to be considered for conditional release on licence after serving sixty per cent of the sentence imposed by a court; and
12. (4) A licence granted to a prisoner shall remain in force until the expiration of the term of his sentence, unless it is revoked earlier.
If your sentence is more than 1 year and less than 4 years long
• You will be released when you have served half your sentence.
• When this happens, you have to see someone from probation who will make sure
you are keeping to the rules in your licence.
• Your licence ends at three quarters of the way through your sentence.
