Cayman Islands: Firearm offences in separate incidents – men charged

Two Men Charged with Firearm Offences in Connection with Incident Early Saturday Morning, 7 May

Around  3:10AM Saturday morning, 7 May, officers responded to a report of a fight involving multiple people in the parking lot of the Fete Nightclub at 426 West Bay Road. Although no fight was in progress when officers arrived, a large crowd was present in the parking lot and officers began making enquiries. As a result of these enquiries, two men, ages 24 and 25, from North Side and West Bay, respectively, were arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm, after a 9mm handgun was recovered in a vehicle.

Today (Mon) each man was charged with two counts of Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm (ammunition and weapon). They are scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.

Man Charged with Firearm Offence in Connection with Incident Friday Morning, 6 May, 2016

Just before 2AM Friday morning, 6 May, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre received a report that a man had pulled a gun on other patrons during a dispute at the Rooftop Lounge and Bar on Mary Street. Officers responded to the area while 9-1-1 obtained a further description of the suspect and his movements as he left the establishment. About 2:20PM officers sighted the man on McField Lane, and arrested him. The man, age 43, of George Town, is currently in custody.

Today the man has been charged with Possession of an Imitation Firearm and is scheduled to appear in court.
