The RCIPS Football Tournament concluded last Monday (16), and coincided with a Family Fun Day organized by the Police Welfare Committee.  There were triumphant champions, disappointed runners’-up, a thrilled crowd, but above all, a great competition.

A total of 5 competitions were held. Congrats to the U13 winners, Cayman National team 1, the U15 champions, the West Bay Sharks and the U17 champions, Academy SC.

Three teams showed up for the U13 competition. Clifton Hunter and the national team which was split in 2. National team 1 won the competitions as they beat National team 2 in the finals.

Only 1 team, West Bay Sharks showed for the U15 championships. By virtue of this they won the trophy.

4 teams showed up for the U17 competitions:  Clifton Hunter, Academy SC, Bodden Town SC and Elite SC. The West Bay Sharks were also allowed to compete in the U17 comeptiton. They were able to beat 3 of the U17 teams which is a tremendous feat considering the age difference. The U17 championships was however was won by Academy SC.

All 3 age group teams were presented with individual trophies and medals as well as the Neighbouhood Policing Trpohies. Sadly no female teams showed up as most of the ladies we were told were sitting exams. The medals and trophies are still with us.

Following the youth games we had the Law Enforcement Challenge Cup competition. 8 teams entered:  Customs, Fire, HMP, Scotiabank, Cayman Islands Referees Association, Windsor Park 1 and 2 and Carib 345.

The winner was Scotiabank, who then played a Police Select team for the coveted cup. In the end Scotiabank walked away with all the prizes beating the police select on penalties.  Congratulations to the Scotiabank team!

The evening ended with the finals of the departmental competition. ARV Responderz and the Training Tigers played. In the end PC Derron Campbell scored a penalty to give the Responderz victory over a very disappointed Tigers team. The Responderz were overjoyed in raising the Commissioner’s Cup for the first time.

PC Derron Campbell was the golden boot winner while PC Jerome Garwood defender for the Responderz won the MVP.

A total of 150 T-shirts with the RCIPS logo and the words printed on the back of each one with the theme, “RCIPS Uniting our Community” were handed out to all participating teams and all kids and families who were present.
